I have played a lot of board games, but this is the first time I am playing a board game that is related to my study field. The game is called THE PANDEMIC. There were many rules to be followed. Me and my teammates followed the rules and started playing. Each member can do four actions at one time. I got the role of the Researcher. At first, I didn't know the abilities of the Researcher. There was a lot of confusion, difficulty in following the rules as we were not used it. The other three members had their assigned roles and did well to cure the disease.
As we kept on playing, we realized that we were focusing only on removing the cubes, but not curing the disease. Our team understood that there must be planning, teamwork, and collaboration of team members. The game started to become interesting, when team members got epidemic cards. Epidemic cards can lead to outbreaks and makes it more challenging to win the game. Even though we lost the game, we realized that this game needs a lot of understanding and planning. Each action should be performed carefully.
This is just week 1. We have lot to go. Next time when we play and the instructor assign us to lead the game, We (including our team members) must plan, share and co-ordinate the idea and communicate effectively to get the best results. Choosing the rule wisely and using the ability at the right time is the key to winning the game.
See you next week.
